Church Wharf Moorings at Chess Basin, Rickmansworth, are superbly located inside the M25 on the edge of the Chilterns. The moorings are only a minute from local footpaths, 5 minutes from shops and cafes and 30 minutes by tube or train to London.

Our moorings are at Chess Basin, Rickmansworth, a secluded spot just 200 yards up the River Chess from Lock 81 on the Grand Union.

Rickmansworth is 5 minutes walk from the moorings with trains every 20 minutes into London and only 20 minutes drive to Heathrow or Luton. It’s shops, cafes, pubs and Watersmeet Community Centre give it the character of a village and the amenities of a town

Batchworth Lock

Batchworth Lock was once the overnight stop for working boats. The famous Rickmansworth Canal Festival takes place here alongside the fishing, skiing and sailing lakes. The lock is now home to Rickmansworth Waterways Trust who run the festival along with many other events and programs

Fees

  • Mooring fees: based on mooring area. From £804 per month
  • Electricity: paid by Smart card
  • Water: No charge
  • WiFi: No charge
  • Car Parking: One car free. Second car £120 per year
  • Transit between Basin and Grand Union: No charge

LEGAL STUFF

Rights to moor in Chess Basin are dependent on, but not limited to, the boat having a valid CRT boat licence and a valid boat safety certificate, the boat having been dry-docked and had the hull inspected within the last 4 years and being capable of navigation on any of CRT’s waterways and the boat owner signing a licence agreement.

OVERSTAY CHARGES

A boat owner is liable for overstay charges if their boat is in Chess Basin, for whatever reason, without a current signed licence agreement between the boat owner and Waterways Heritage Ltd that covers the period the boat is in Chess basin. The owner will be charged £50 a day overstay charges for each day the boat is in Chess Basin without a signed licence agreement.
